Top Business Schools Worldwide

Educational organizations, student guides and various business journals publish lists of the top business schools every year. Most lists use each school's program for a masters in business administration as the basis of of their ranking. Other criteria include starting salary of graduates, the influence of a school's reputation, the percent of graduates hired within three months, the achievements of faculty members and a school's emphasis on corporate responsibility. Although rankings vary, the same schools repeatedly appear in the top 10 or 20 slots of each list.
  1. Harvard Business School

    • Located in Cambridge, Mass, Harvard Business School leads many of the lists of top business schools. The prestigious century-old school has a 40-acre urban campus and an average of 94 students in each year of its two-year MBA program. Among its most impressive resources is the school annual $70 million research budget. Tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year were $46,150.

    Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa

    • Spain's IESE Business School, which is part of the University of Navarra, offers one of the oldest MBA programs in Europe. The school has campuses in Madrid and Barcelona. IESE also offers joint programs with several top U.S. business schools including Harvard and MIT's Sloan School of Business Management. Key relationships in Asia and Latin America allow the program to focus on the global economy.

    London Business School

    • One of the most highly regarded business schools in Europe, London Business School is part of the University of London and is located in the center of London. Although most European MBA programs are one year, London Business School's program is 24 months. Approximately 400 students are admitted each year from all over the world. The school emphasizes a global approach to business and economic issues.

    Wharton Business School

    • Founded in 1881 in Philadelphia, Wharton Business School is part of the University of Pennsylvania. Wharton offers a two track MBA program with one section of full-time students and the other for business executives returning to school. Roughly 850 students from 70 countries are admitted each year to the MBA program which focuses on global business. Tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year were $51,773.

    International Institute for Management Development

    • Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, the International Institute for Management Development offers an MBA program with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Management. In addition to those areas of study, the school also emphasizes corporate responsibility and global business practices. Approximately 90 full time students are admitted each year to the MBA program and tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year were $77,126.
