Top 10 MBA Business Schools

Students pursuing a Master of Business Administration have a wealth of options to choose from when it comes to selecting a school. While rating these schools is a subjective endeavor at best, writers and editors at Bloomberg Businessweek annually rank MBA programs from around the country. While these rankings are subject to debate, the list does provide an excellent picture of some of the most quality schools from around the country. Bloomberg Businessweek created the rankings using surveys of MBA graduates and recruiters, salary information from recent graduates and an academic quality measure.
  1. University of Chicago

    • Occupying the top spot is the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business's full-time MBA program. Students accepted into the highly competitive program attend school for 21 months while taking three to four courses per quarter. Acceptance is highly selective, however, and the average enrollee has a Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score of 714. According to the Graduate Management Admissions Council, the average GMAT score falls in the mid-500s.

    Harvard University

    • The MBA program at the Harvard Business School is certainly one of the better-known programs in the country and comes in at second on the list. Consistent with its reputation for offering a high quality education, Harvard's MBA program is one of the most prestigious in the country. Admissions are highly selective and, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Businessweek, the school admitted 12 percent of 9,093 applicants to the 2010 class.

    Northwestern University

    • Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business MBA program the third best in the country. The average student admitted into the Northwestern MBA program has between three and seven years of work experience and an average GMAT score of 708.

    • Ranked as the fourth best MBA program in the country by Bloomberg Businessweek, the University of Pennsylvania offers a stringent curriculum centered in the heart of Philadelphia, Penn. The program accepted just 862 applicants out of 7,493 while selects had a median GMAT score of 720.

    • The highest ranked public school on the Bloomberg Businessweek list, the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business comes in as the fifth best MBA program in the country. Despite its status as a public school, however, the MBA program is very selective. Admittees in 2010 had an average grade point average of 3.4 and an average GMAT of 701.

    • The highest-ranking school in the western United States to appear on the list, Stanford University comes in at sixth in the ratings with its stringently competitive MBA program. The school accepted 7 percent of applicants in 2010 with a median GMAT score of 730.

    • Seventh on the Bloomberg Businessweek list is Columbia University's program, which offers its program in New York City. The entering class of 2009 saw 15 percent of applicants admitted with 80 percent of GMAT scores ranging between 680-760.
