Rutgers' part-time students are those who are registered with eight credits or less a semester. They are able to enroll in any of the eight engineering degree programs and must complete their degree in less than four years. This option was designed for students who are working full-time to obtain a Master of Science (MS) or Ph.D. in engineering.

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) was named one of the nation's most environmentally responsible colleges by the Princeton Review in 2010 due to projects like the Environmental Symposia Series and student organizations such as the Emerging Green Builders. MSOE offers part-time BS degree programs in six engineering disciplines. Courses may be pursued in the evening and on the weekends and curriculums are designed for students who have earned their associate degree in the field. Graduates of MSOE have a 95 percent placement rate (five-year average) and complete more than 600 hours of research within seven laboratories.

California Institute of Technology was ranked among the 10 best engineering schools in the nation by U.S News and World Report in 2010. The school offers part-time degrees to engineering students who are not able to devote to a full-time curriculum. Engineering degrees are offered in mechanical, electrical, civil and aeronautical engineering. Students apply in full-time master of doctoral programs and attach a detailed plan about meeting course requirements. Research is supervised by a faculty member and students must complete a minimum of 27 units of coursework each term during the first year.
