MS Accounting Degrees

A Master of Science in Accounting is generally designed for students who have an undergraduate background in accounting and who want to prepare themselves for professional careers as certified public accountants, or CPAs; however, some programs accept students who have no or a limited background in accounting. Most graduate programs in accounting require that students take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) before they apply.
  1. SUNY Buffalo

    • The State University of New York at Buffalo offers a Master of Science (MS) in Accounting to students who have completed undergraduate accounting degrees from other colleges and universities in the U.S. This full-time program requires only two semesters of study, and admits students in the fall semester only. Students who complete this program satisfy the 150-hour education requirement for certification as a certified public accountant (CPA) in many states. Students who have graduated from this program have gone on to work for employers such as HSBC, Merrill Lynch and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

    Boston Cullege

    • The Carroll School of Management at Boston College offers a Master of Science program in accounting. Students here must complete 30 credit hours of coursework, at least 18 of which must be accounting-specific courses. Students may take electives in any of BC's graduate course offerings, including those in finance and marketing. This program accepts students in both June and September; students without a background in accounting begin the program in June so that they may fulfill prerequisites during the summer session.

    UC Fullerton

    • The Mihaylo College of Business and Economics at the University of California, Fullerton offers a Master of Science degree in Accountancy, a program intended to prepare students for careers in professional accounting. Students in this program must complete at least 30 units of coursework to graduate; those students without an undergraduate background in accounting must take up to 24 units of additional coursework to fulfill prerequisites.

    Farleigh Dickinson University

    • The Silberman College of Business at Farleigh Dickinson University, located in Madison, New Jersey, offers a Master of Science in Accounting with two separate track options; the completion of either track academically qualifies students to take the certified public accountant (CPA) exam and meet licensing requirements. One track is intended for those students who have an undergraduate background in accounting; the other, more labor-intensive track is intended for students without an undergraduate background in accounting.
