Indiana University awards grants that have been sponsored by the National Institutes of Health to disadvantaged students wishing to enter the field of respiratory therapy. Under the regulations mandated by the Health Careers Opportunity Program, the university has a partnership with high schools, middle schools, the Chamber of Commerce and community organizations, and recruits candidates into their respiratory therapy program. In addition to enrolling disadvantaged students into the program, a portion of the grant is used to promote preliminary education in the field of respiratory therapy through a six-week summer school inernship, and ongoing training throughout the course of the academic year.

Based in Irving, Texas, the American Respiratory Care Foundation provides recognition awards to undergraduate students who are enrolled in accredited respiratory therapy programs nationwide. The award consists of a certificate of recognition, a one-night accommodation, airfare and membership into the American Association for Respiratory Care International Respiratory Congress. In order to qualify, applicants must submit a literature review, a limited clinical investigation or an essay, which will be reviewed by a committee.

MSRC awards 10 scholarships to students enrolled in respiratory therapy or related programs, with priority given to students in a respiratory therapy program. Candidates must be Massachusetts residents. The awards will be given at the annual MSRC meeting, which is held every September. Applicants must be members of the American Association for Respiratory Care as well as MSRC. Additional qualification requirements include community service in a respiratory care related field, a recommendation letter and a two-page essay. The personal essay should demonstrate the applicant’s professional goals and how he or she intends to make a contribution to advance studies in the field of respiratory therapy. All applications will be evaluated by a scholarship committee.
