Risk Management Degree Programs

Risk management is defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as identifying, assessing and prioritizing the effect of certain circumstances, whether the effect is positive or negative. Risk management degree programs are designed to provide individuals with a deeper understanding of the factors that are associated with risk management.

    • Indiana State University has a bachelor’s degree completion program in insurance and risk management that has a faculty of professors who hold doctorate degrees in addition to their industry experience. Courses include dynamics of professional success, introduction to management information systems, principles of marketing, introduction to risk and insurance, and commercial property risk management and insurance.

    St. John’s University

    • St. John’s University’s risk management program offers students three degree options. Students can choose to pursue a master of science degree in management of risk, a master of science degree in enterprise risk management or a master of business administration degree with a concentration in risk and insurance. Courses include risk basics, management of risk, risk management economics, risk modeling methods, risk research methods and cases in risk, insurance and banking.

    Excelsior College

    • Excelsior College has a risk management and insurance degree program that leads to a bachelor of science degree. The program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the relationship between the theory and practice of insurance as well as the risk management process. Within this degree program, students choose from three options for specialization. These choices are corporate risk management, property/liability insurance and life/health insurance.

    University of Georgia

    • The University of Georgia has a doctor of philosophy degree program in business administration with a major option in risk management and insurance. This program is designed to prepare students for positions in business and government and for research and teaching at colleges and universities. Students have the option of combining this major with other areas of specialization that may include law, finance, management, economics, accounting or marketing. Courses include risk management and insurance, commercial property and liability insurance, life insurance, employee benefits and corporate risk management.
