Universities That Offer Nurse Practitioner Programs in Ontario

Nine of the Ontario universities with nurse practitioner training offer the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program through the Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing. This one-year diploma or certificate program has a large distance education element, with courses delivered online, but students are also in the classroom for labs and tutorials. Prospective students must have completed undergraduate registered nurse training and have a valid RN certification and at least two years of RN experience.

    • The University of Toronto offers a nurse practitioner program that is not aligned with the other nine Ontario universities offering PHCNP programs. The post-master's nurse practitioner diploma is a 20-month part-time program delivered completely online. The focus is on pediatric or adult acute care. Applicants must already have completed a master's degree.
