Eligibility requirements vary for the École des Métiers de la Construction de Montreal. You may have a secondary school diploma and qualify. For those without the diploma, the requirements vary based on your age, your school and the standardized testing you have taken. In order to apply, you should be fairly comfortable with mathematics, engineering and the language of instruction (English or French). In terms of language instruction, there are minimum scores required on Canada's General Development Exam, although there are no formal expectations for mathematics. The scores for adults are 3070-3 and 306 for "youth."
If you cannot locate a work-study program or apprenticeship, technical school is one avenue to pursue. Montreal Technical College offers a course in Steel and Masonry Construction. The course covers a huge variety of related topics concerning mortar mixing, brick-laying, "applying masonry to skeleton construction and bearing walls," and waterproofing. You can apply to the program if you have a secondary diploma, comparable study or significant time in the construction industry. Your math scores should reflect proficiency at the Canadian course level of Mathematics 436.
