Hazmat response training covers several areas of hazardous material incident management, such as highway emergency response, tactical hazmat operations in surface transportation and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) training. Additional areas of study include hazard recognition, identification and basic defensive actions.
Several companies, such as the Security and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC) in Pueblo, Colorado, offer on-site instruction in hazmat response training. Other companies, such as Compliance Solutions, offer online training programs in certain areas of hazmat training.
As of October 2010, HAZMAT response training from SERTC ranged in cost from $1,590 to $2,650, depending on the subject matter covered.
