Class D Security Training

Those who wish to work as an unarmed security guard in Florida must first obtain a Class D security license. Individuals must complete 40 hours of training administered by the state legislature.
  1. Pre-Application Instruction

    • Security guard applicants must complete coursework before filing a license application. Areas included in the coursework are: crime prevention and accident prevention, basic first aid, fire prevention and suppression, and emergency policies and procedures.

    Post-Application Instruction

    • Within 180 days of submitting a license application, individuals must complete 16 hours of additional training. Coursework includes: an introduction to non-lethal weapons, courtroom procedures, terrorism awareness training and defensive tactics.

    Additional Information

    • A temporary Class D license is issued to students who complete the initial 24 hours of training. The permanent Class D license is issued after the remaining 16 hours of training is complete as well as the successful passing of a written examination.
