Because of the high demand for MicroStation training by AutoCAD users, classroom and online training as well as books and DVDs have been created to train AutoCAD veterans in the use of Bentley's software. The depth and specifications of training required will help in determining which learning approach suits you best.
The specialized nature of AutoCAD makes it difficult to outline what a course should entail. A course tailored to HVAC or plumbing designers will obviously differ greatly from one geared toward architects. As a general example, though, a non-industry-specific two-day certification course offered by CADline guides AutoCAD users through the process of creating a new project from scratch in MicroStation using their AutoCAD background as a reference.
Bentley Systems, producer of MicroStation, offers a number of training courses of its own. The company has also published a book entitled "MicroStation V8 for AutoCAD Users," which guides users through both systems comparatively (see Resources). Each chapter talks about a specific feature of AutoCAD and then about the features of MicroStation that relate to it. The book costs $50, as of January 2011.
