The Brandywine School of Illustrative Arts was started by Howard David Johnson, a contemporary visual artist and photographer. His work has been exhibited in the British Museum in London as well as being commissioned by well-known clients, including the National Geographic Society and Paramount Studios. The school offers a self-paced home study program consisting of 15 lessons. Lessons include basics such as drawing and shading, color pencils, wet painting and using photography and photo-editing software with art applications.
New Masters was founded by John Gordon as part of the Gordon School of Art. He received a master's degree of fine arts from the University of Wisconsin, then taught art in both school settings and private lessons. The art school offers home study courses in addition to studio courses. The home study courses include the Foundation Course, consisting of the first four levels of instruction; the Level 5 New Masters Course; and the Level 6 New Master Course. It is suitable for self-instruction for adults and teens or can be used for one-on-one study with children supervised by an adult.
Stratford Career Institute was established in 1991 as a privately owned correspondence school. It offers a self-paced home study art course covering all the basic mediums and styles of art, including drawing, pastels, watercolor painting, acrylic painting and oil painting. The course can be completed in six months to two years. All textbooks, study guides and art supplies needed to complete the assignments are included in the tuition costs.
