Russian Colleges for Military Studies

The young Russian aspirant to a life in the military can apply to a number of different colleges for study. Present day Russian military colleges trace their roots back to Peter the Great. History cites Peter's reign, from 1682 to 1725, as the period when Russia was transformed into a European-style state and military power. During this time, Peter democratized the military by allowing members of the non-nobility to join its ranks.
