This famous performing arts school originated in 1905 as the Institute of Musical Art. Now known as The Julliard School, it is famous for instruction in music, dance and drama. Located in New York City next to the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, this school offers top instruction in dance, drama, music and liberal arts while being in close proximity to some of the greatest culture in the world. Alumni of the school include Laura Linney, Kevin Spacey and Robin Williams.
In 1997, Roosevelt University established a College of Performing Arts that joined with Chicago Musical College and the Theater Program. This created Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. The college features two divisions: The Music Conservatory and The Theatre Conservatory. The Music Conservatory offers instruction by more than 25 members of the Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera Orchestra. Students receive studio lessons and participate in recitals. Students in The Theatre Conservatory learn in the growing Chicago theatre scene studying acting and musical theatre. They perform in a season of plays and musicals and have the opportunity to hold internships in more than 100 theatre companies in Chicago.
With schools in New York City and Los Angeles, The American Musical & Dramatic Academy offers training and education in dance, acting and musical theater. The school has been in existence since 1964 and features famous alumni including Paul Sorvino and Gretchen Mol. The school holds classes in New York City in the historic Ansonia Building on the Upper West Side and in Los Angeles in the historic Vine Tower Building.
The College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania offers study in drama and music along with programs in art, design and architecture. The school is the oldest degree-granting drama program in the United States having started so in 1914. Drama students focus on a four-year conservatory in acting, directing, design and performance technology & management. Graduate students in the Drama program will learn dramatic writing, directing, design which includes costume, scenic and lighting, and performance technology & management.
