The National College of Midwifery is located in Taos, New Mexico. The college offers both an Associates of Science in Midwifery as well as a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. The associates program is formulated so that students learn at the side of a licensed midwife in order to become a midwife. The bachelors program is intended for midwives who are already practicing but want to increase their credentials.
The Birthingway College of Midwifery, located in Portland, Oregon, opened in 1993. Birthingway prepares its students for certification with the National American Registry of Midwives, but does not itself offer certification.
The Midwives College of Utah was established in 1980. It is a distance learning college, meaning that it does not have a campus where students learn -- but the college does have an administrative location in Salt Lake City. Although the college only offers distance learning courses, each student has a live instructor, and each student works with a midwife to gain experience in the field.
The Baystate Medical Center, located in Massachussetts, opened a midwifery program as a cooperative program with the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University. The program lasts for five semesters and is meant to be studied simultaneously with a Masters program, since midwives are now required to obtain Masters degrees.
