Nova Southeastern University was ranked by Online Education Database as the best online university in the United States in 2009. Nova Southeastern is a regionally accredited university that offers many of its degree programs online. A comparison of the online majors offered by Nova in light of the JKC study reveals that the university offers three online majors with high acceptance rates into medical school: psychology, nursing and health science. As one of the few online universities to offer a wide array of courses and majors that medical school admission committees find favorable, Nova Southeastern University is one possible choice for those pursuing an online degree with the intention of going to medical school afterward.

Drexel University in Philadelphia is a nationally recognized school that offers various online degree programs. Drexel was nationally ranked number 86 by "U.S. News & World Report" in the 2010-2011 academic year. The Johns Hopkins University website notes that some of the things medical school admission committees look for include students who show a commitment to lifelong learning, have a strong science background and show commitment in their undergraduate studies to prepare for medical school. Drexel University's online Bachelor of Science in General Studies provides students with an opportunity to fulfill these requirements. The general studies program at Drexel allows students to tailor their education to meet their career goals. They can use the 45 credit hours allotted to their chosen specialty in the areas of math and science. An additional 12 hours of math and nine hours of science are required as part of the degree program as well. Students also have 66 credit hours in electives for which they can prepare for medical school as well.

Penn State University ranks among the top universities in the nation. "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the school number 47 in the nation for the 2010-2011 academic year. Like Drexel, Penn State offers an online Bachelor of Arts in Letters, Arts, and Sciences that can be customized to fit the needs of pre-medical students. These types of interdisciplinary programs offered by both Penn State and Drexel are listed among those majors with the highest acceptance rate indicated in the JKC study. Interdisciplinary majors were accepted into medical school at a rate of 46 percent. For comparison, pre-medical majors were admitted at a rate of 37 percent. Penn State offers numerous online fields of study in math and science that can serve as a springboard into medical school.
