The School of Behavioral Sciences at California Southern University offers four degrees in psychology: a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MS) and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D). Each degree level is fully earned via distance learning and correspondence courses. For the BA, a full range of courses is required in addition to the core classes in psychology. These include the humanities, science, math and English. The master's programs provide students with a theoretical foundation in psychology that can be applied in the fields of pastoral counseling, life coaching, and training for business. The Psy.D program is intended to advance a student's clinical study of psychology toward professional work in the field.

While psychoanalysis is a part of all psychology coursework and degree programs, there are few universities with an added emphasis on the study alone. Saybrook University, though, is one of them. The school offers both an MA and Ph.D in psychology with a concentration in Jungian Studies. "Jungian" refers to the area of study associated with Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and protégé of Sigmund Freud. The Jungian Studies program at Saybrook is headed by James Hollis, a Ph.D with extensive experience and knowledge of Jung and his work in the field. Coursework will involve studying the original works of Jung as well as later research that was spawned from his initial ideas.
