The demand for online classes increased nearly sevenfold from 2008 to 2009, according to a Sloan Consortium study, with business courses being among the most popular. Accounting degrees can be obtained online at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and non-degree certificate programs are also offered.

    • Northwest Ohio University offers an online associate degree in accounting as well as three different bachelor's degrees. Bachelor's degrees are offered in accounting, forensic accounting and a CPA track in accounting. Courses offered in the accounting field include Accounting, Accounting Professional Ethics, Introduction to Accounting Software, and Accounting Information Systems. Courses offered as part of the forensic accounting program include studies in most basic accounting courses, and also studies in White Collar Crime, Introduction to the Legal System, Criminal Law and Forensic Accounting.

Louisiana State University (LSU) offers a program that prepares students to sit for the CPA examination. To be admitted to the program, applicants must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and have completed at least six hours of intermediate accounting. Courses include studies in Cost Analysis and Control, Commercial Transactions for Accountants, Income Tax Accounting, Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting, Advanced Accounting, and Fraud Auditing and Forensic Accounting.
