For full-time students, most TEFL courses are completed within a month, while on a part-time schedule, the training certification could last approximately one year. The courses are offered on an hourly basis: 80-, 100-, 120- and 150-hour courses. Depending on the institution, the requirements for employment vary. For example, most colleges require a 150-hour course to be qualified to teach.
The vast majority of TEFL training courses are available online. This gives you the freedom to complete the course on your own schedule. Online courses also make tutors available to help you with your progress; however, tutors are not mandatory and are designed to help you if necessary.
With a TEFL certificate, graduates have many options, most notably teaching overseas. The most common destinations for TEFL graduates are South Korea, Japan, China and the Middle East. Salaries and benefits vary; however, with a TEFL certificate, starting salaries are generally higher than those for a teacher who has only a bachelor's degree.
