The Pennsylvania State University, also known as Penn State, is a state university in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. History majors within the Department of History and Religious Studies focus on culture, religion, art, politics and war within their history courses.

Scripps College in Claremont, California, is a liberal arts college for women. The history program at Scipps focuses on research, analysis and writing.
The college offers a wide range of periods, areas and methodological approaches in history. Students majoring in history must take a history proseminar, student seminar in history, eight survey courses and one course in either Pre-modern (before 1800), Modern Europe, the Americas, Asia/Africa or Middle East History. Students should use the remainder of their courses to focus on a specific area of historical research. A senior thesis is required.
