The UCLA department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures, NELC, offers a B.A. degree in Arabic, as well as a MA. The NELC defines the goal of its department as the study of the language, culture, and values of "an area that was the cradle of all civilization." Emphasizing research, the NELC works with other UCLA departments to provide opportunities for students to research in the area of their choosing.
The B.A. degree in Arabic requires 14 core classes in the areas of Arabic language, history, culture and literature.

The University of Texas at Austin offers a B.A., master's, and Ph.D in Arabic studies. The B.A. in Arabic Program at UT is an intense language program that teaches students to use Arabic at a high level in the first three years followed by Arabic courses on literature, culture, history and other areas. The program also requires students learn and practice a regional dialect as well as formal Arabic.
