Texas colleges and universities are taking note of the popularity in earning a degree online. The convenience of online classes is very important to those that need the flexibility, whether it is due to a complex work schedule, a disability or illness, or the cost of classes. In Texas, there are several different options for a student looking to earn a degree online.
  1. Central Texas College

    • Students that attend this college have the option to take classes at one of the six campuses or online. There is a good selection of degree programs available through online classes including business administration, computer science, criminal justice and general studies which can be completely completed online. Additionally, Central Texas College has online certificate programs as well for areas such as medical transcription, computer helpdesk specialist and hospitality management. For nonresidents and international students, a class of three credit hours would cost $480. A resident would pay between $162 and $204 for the same credit hours depending on the district location.

    Texas Tech University

    • This university offers degree programs for both undergraduates and graduates. In total, there are 40 different degrees and certificates offered online by Texas Tech University. Some of the programs that are offered include Bachelor of General Studies, Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies, Bachelor of Science in Horticultural and Turfgrass Sciences, Master of Arts in Technical Communication, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. A Texas resident who takes online classes for an undergraduate degree will pay $882.97 for a three credit course. A nonresident pays $1812.97.

    University of North Texas

    • The University of North Texas offers several graduate degree programs and certificates online. Undergraduate degrees are not offered online, however.

      Some of the online degrees offered are MBA in Business; Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling; Master of Science, Library Science with School Library Certification; and Master of Science in Merchandising. For a Texas resident, an undergraduate three credit hour class would cost $1,013.99. A nonresident would pay $1,952.99. All of the degree programs can be completed online, although a few might require some contact by phone or email.

    University of Texas Arlington

    • In addition to attending courses on campus, a student can choose to take online classes at this university. The degree programs that a student may earn online are criminal justice, education, nursing, engineering, business administration and public administration. For a resident, an undergraduate class worth three credit hours will cost $1,004. Distance education courses, which are taken completely online, may have fees attached from $20 to $500 depending on the class.
