Online Education Options

The Internet has opened many opportunities for students seeking to escape the K-12 environment or searching for higher education. In these new schools, students receive their instruction from a teacher over the Internet, and they perform assignments and submit them electronically. The options students have are similar to those offered in a traditional classroom, with some students attending private online schools and others attending public online schools.
  1. Traditional Online Public Schools

    • Traditional schools are not for every student. Some students prefer the online environment. Students can access these public school from anywhere with an Internet connection, and these online schools also offer a private option. Students who do not have access to a computer can borrow a computer through various programs. While lacking the traditional school building, online public schools provide all of the administrative support and accountability found in a traditional school. Students are initially given learning coaches that help guide them through school. However, the time with the learning coach is gradually decreased as the students develop greater skills. These public schools allow students to receive accelerated learning so they do not feel bored. These schools also help provide other students with additional classroom time to help them master subjects they struggle with. Students can attend any public school in the state.

    Online Private Schools

    • Online private schools are specialized in giving students more one-on-one instruction in the same way that traditional private schools provide smaller class sizes. The private schools do not have wait lists, unlike the public schools. Students can start school as soon as they want.

    Completely Online Schools

    • Many colleges now offer online courses, and some colleges even allow students to entirely receive their education online. This allows students to attend college from anywhere, including outside the native country of the educational institution. The online courses can significantly save students money on travel and lodging expenses as well as lower tuition expenses. The online colleges provide students with significantly more freedom than the traditional colleges because students can log on to the class at any time, freeing the student for work.

    Traditional and Online Schools

    • Students attending a traditional college can take online courses. These online courses allow instructors to hold classes that universities would otherwise be hesitant to hold due to the course tying up a classroom. Also, some colleges that offer four-year degrees also have shorter educational programs that are held through online courses, such as certificate programs.
