Software that allows for video conferencing and high levels of connectivity, along with mobile devices like tablet computers and PDAs, have equipped students and teachers with the ability to communicate with peers around the world and access more resources and information than ever before. Distance learning courses are harnessing this technology to take education online both in and out of the classroom.
The online globalization of education allows teachers to create richer, more interactive lessons using a greater number of tools than were available with traditional schooling. In addition, a greater variety of courses and classes are now available to people so that their location or situation need not prevent them from pursuing the education they desire.
The benefits of technology and the global awareness it leads to helps students achieve a higher level of literacy in nearly all subjects, from math and science to literature and the fine arts. Online resources allow students to see the subject matter in action, to observe its effect on the world and to better understand what the subject truly means.
