Occupational Therapy Online Graduate Programs

Occupational therapists assist individuals who have physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities with the limitations they experience in their day-to-day activities. Therapists work in a variety of settings and perform many duties in an effort to strengthen the health and well-being of their patients. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the occupational therapy field is expected to grow much faster than the average. The minimum requirements for entry into the field is a master's degree. Educational programs must be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education. Although most programs are offered in a classroom setting, several online programs offer graduate degrees in occupational therapy.

    • Boston University offers an online Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy. The program is designed to examine and enhance a therapist's current practice.

      Within the program, students take two courses per semester with each course lasting 6 weeks. The program is designed to be completed within 22 months. Courses offered in the program include trends in occupational therapy, health-care management, and health promotion and wellness.

    A.T. Still University

    • A.T. Still University offers an advanced degree program for occupational therapy students through the Arizona School of Health Sciences. The degree is offered exclusively online, and graduates earn an Advanced Master of Science in Occupational Therapy Studies. The program is designed for individuals that are already practicing occupational therapy. The purpose of the program is to allow therapists strengthen their academic and clinical foundations. Admission to the program requires a bachelor's degree, certification as an occupational therapist from the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy and a minimum grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale.

    • Florida International University offers an online Post Professional Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. The program consists of 30 credit hours plus a Master's project. The two core components of the program include research and practice. Research courses cover current research within the occupational therapy industry as well as evidence-based practice. Research courses are designed to assist students with their master's project. Practice courses include current issues and theories of occupational therapy, the occupational therapist's role in family care, and the role of the environment in occupational therapy. All courses for this program are taught exclusively online with no requirements to visit campus.
