American Public University is a completely online university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs to military and civilian students. The M.A. in history at American Public University is flexible, allowing students to complete nine semester hours of electives within the program. Students choose to specialize in an area of history: American, ancient and classical, European or global. Students may complete a thesis, practicum or comprehensive exam for this 36-hour program. Students can choose concentrations in early and modern American history, the American South, Latin America, the Hispanic world, modern Europe, world history and military history. Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies offers an online Master of Liberal Arts degree with a specialization in applied history. This degree allows the study of history at an advanced level within a broad liberal arts framework. Students complete course work in philosophy, historical thinking, critical theory and an area of specialization. The applied history specialization includes courses in world history, current events and public history. Students must complete 40 quarter hours (approximately 27 semester hours) and a thesis.
