Online Accounting Masters Programs

If you enjoy crunching numbers, calculating interest and plotting investments, a career in accounting may be a good fit. If you have already completed a bachelor's degree, the next step on the collegiate and career ladder may be to pursue a master's degree. Graduate work in accounting is available at many schools, both fully online and online divisions of standard universities. Enroll in an online Master of Accounting degree program and you will be able to complete assignments over the Internet, work through self-paced studies and interact with professors through email and forums.
  1. Master of Accountancy

    • The Master of Accountancy online program, operated by Saint Joseph's College of Maine, offers 12 classes in 10-week sections. Among the courses are financial standards and analysis, legal environment, accounting information systems, taxation, audit, advanced management accounting, international accounting and corporate financial management. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree. Any field is acceptable, but students without a major in accounting must take additional courses in financial accounting, macroeconomics, managerial accounting and introduction to finance. Credits may be waived for undergraduate work. Applicants must have had an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.5. An Internet connection is required.

    Master of Business Administration

    • Earn an online Master of Business Administration with an accounting specialization from Capella University. The two-year program (students have up to four years to finish) includes courses in marketing and brand management, financial management, accounting, strategy, budget planning and control, audit and control of accounting information systems, accounting information for decision making and applied managerial statistics. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.3. Capella's online learning requirements include an Internet connection (high speed recommended), minimum 20 GB hard disk space, email address, Microsoft Office, anti-virus software, video card, speakers, sound card, Windows Media Player, minimum 1 GHz processor and minimum 512 MB RAM.

    Master's in Governmental Accounting

    • Rutgers Business School is the only college to offer an online Master's Degree in Governmental Accounting. The 10-course program may be completed part-time and includes classes in accounting for managers, governmental accounting and auditing, public sector auditing, capital budgeting, government budgeting systems, ethical issues in public financial management, local government financial administration and management control in nonprofit organizations. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in accounting or heavy coursework in accounting and two letters of recommendation. Two years of full-time accounting experience is recommended. An Internet connection is required; a laptop is recommended.
