Michigan's Ferris State University offers a bachelor degree program in early childhood education that trains participants to work with and educate infants, toddlers, and preschool students. The interdisciplinary program incorporates childhood development, first aid, child psychology, English, math, children's literature, and sociology. In addition to the academic components of the program, students at Ferris State have access to a child development laboratory. The North American Montessori Center offers diploma programs at four levels of early childhood education. The Foundation Program, which trains students to work with children aged 2.8 to 6, is ideal for prospective preschool teachers. The program consists of three components, each lasting two months and ten days, for a total program time of seven months. The program covers material such as sensory development and music enrichment, language arts, culture, science, and mathematics. All North American Montessori Center courses are distance learning programs, which means that all materials are mailed to participants. Students then complete coursework electronically and submit it to the academy for review and approval.
