Providence Training Institute in Phoenix has both day and weekend classes for CNA certification. Tuition includes all textbooks, workbooks and DVDs, medical tools, a scrub set, TB skin testing, CPR certification and a state fingerprint clearance card. Classes provide instruction in common CNA skills and duties, such as measuring and recording vital signs, patient care, recording liquid and food intake and output and working as part of a health care team. The class also includes a 40-hour externship served in nursing and assisted-living facilities.

Pima Medical Institute's CNA program lasts for five to six weeks. It includes courses in health care and an externship period. Students learn patient care techniques, patient hygiene and how to support nurses and physicians with treatments and diagnostic procedures. Instruction also focuses on infection control, restorative services, and interpersonal and communication skills. Pima Medical Institute offers the CNA course at its East Valley and Mesa campuses.

Northland Pioneer College offers s five-credit nursing assistant program at several of its centers and campuses. Students wanting to enroll in the course must meet certain requirements, however. A minimum reading score of 35 on the ASSET college entrance test or a 61 on the COMPASS (Computer-adaptive College Placement Test), along with taking the EMT (emergency medical technician) 104 class, which covers CPR and first aid, at Northland Pioneer or the equivalent at another school. The program leads to a certificate of completion and the ability to take the state CNA licensure exams.
