The School of Medical Rehabilitation through the University of Manitoba is accredited through CoARTE . This University also holds membership to the Canadian Advisory Council on Education in Respiratory Therapy (CACERT). Upon completion, this four-year study program offers a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Rehabilitation, also known as B.M.R. (R.T.). The Manitoba Association of Registered Respiratory Therapists (MARRT) issues licenses to all graduates of the program; MARRT licensing is required to practice Respiratory Therapy in Manitoba. A branch of Dalhousie University, The Michener Institute offers the Respiratory Therapy Integrated Diploma program. This is a full-time, three-year training course over seven semesters. After completion of the Diploma program, you may choose to enter the workforce. One additional year of training and education will merit the Bachelor of Health Science in Respiratory Therapy. This extra year of education can be completed on a part-time basis over a span of three years. These programs are nationally accredited through CoARTE, and financial aid may be accepted for a small percentage of students due to this being a private college.
Located in Calgary, Alberta, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) offers a three year accredited course. The SAIT program is one of the most up-to-date Respiratory Therapy programs nationally accredited through CoARTE. After completion of the Respiratory Training program, you may transfer to your choice of university or college to complete the Bachelor's Degree program. SAIT offers financial aid, although additional fees may be required for international students. While online training is available for some courses listed within this program, on-site training is also required.
All students who apply for the Respiratory Therapy training program through Thompson Rivers University (TRU) are accepted. CoARTE accredits two training options provided by TRU, these options include Respiratory Therapy training through a three-year diploma program or a four-year Bachelor of Health Science Respiratory Therapy degree. Based on GPA (Grade-point average), students must decide within the first year of entry which program they would like to pursue; seating is limited for the four-year degree program. Financial aid may be available for some students.
Based in North Bay, Ontario, Canadore College offers a three-year, six-semester Respiratory Training certification course. Upon completion of the course, examination and certification are maintained through the National Alliance of Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Bodies. Also meeting the requirements of CoARTE, this college only offers a Respiratory Therapy degree program. After completion of this program, students can then transfer to a different college for completion of the Bachelors Degree program. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify and show proof of a stable budget.
