LVN Hospital Partner Programs

Nursing is an ever-growing field that offers a competitive salary. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nationally, a licensed vocational nurse earns a median income of $36,550 and registered nurses earn $52,330. Through school and hospital partnership programs, hospitals are linked with top talent and students can receive unique benefits like earning credentials on-the-job or even attending school for free.

    • The Angelo State University offers an LVN to RN program combining clinical work and online course study. The curriculum allows the student to complete the training remotely at a rate 50 percent faster than the school's traditional on-campus program. There's a list of approved hospital partners in Texas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Missouri and New Mexico. Students in other states may participate when working in an acute care hospital with an approved clinical preceptor who signs an affiliation agreement with the school's Department of Nursing. The program begins each year in July.

During the 1-year program, students will work for a total of nine days at Good Shepherd Medical Center, which will provide a training that combines hands-on clinical work with high-tech DVD, PowerPoint and computer presentations. The school also offers a LVN certificate. The course is held in the spring and fall.

The Lone Star College-Montgomery nursing department and the Memorial Hermann the Woodlands Hospital began a partnership in 2008. The hospital regularly employs nursing students to work as professional student nurses while studying, often leading to full-time employment after graduation. Each year the hospital dedicates funds to support the annual salary of an additional nursing school faculty member. The college offers two programs (LVN and LVN to RN transition) that combine classroom study with clinical rotations at the hospital and other medical centers in the area. Both three-semester courses start in the summer.

The center hosts students for the clinical skills portion of their training and, as a result, maintains bridges leading to long-term ongoing employment for many program alumnae.

The LVN to RN transition program at Shasta College qualifies current LVN certificate-holders to take an orientation course in lieu of the first two semesters of the associate's degree program, entering in the third semester.
