Top Pre Medical Colleges

Although there is no official ranking system for the best pre-medical programs in the country, students who wish to go into this field should consider undergraduate programs that have a large percentage of graduates that go on to enroll in medical school. While some universities offer a specific pre-med program, many programs advise students to major in biology.

    • Harvard University, a private university located in Boston, Massachusetts, was ranked the top medical school in the country in 2010, according to US News. This university offers a variety of programs aimed at undergraduate students who wish to graduate and enroll in the medical school. Students can earn membership to the Harvard Premedical Society (HPS), a student-run organization that provides support and educational opportunities for students interested in a career in medicine. In addition, students can major in biology of Health and Medicine Science. Summer courses and internship opportunities are also available to qualifying students.

    • The University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia, is the second best medical program in the country, according to a 2010 report by US News. This program offers a variety of science majors, including chemistry, health sciences and biology, as well as clinical and international volunteer opportunities. Students can also join the Penn Pre-Medical Association, a student-run organization for those interested in a career in medicine.

    Johns Hopkins University

    • Johns Hopkins University, located in Baltimore, Maryland, is the third best medical school, according to a 2010 US News report. The university offers a variety of science majors for undergraduates who wish to apply to medical school, including biology and chemistry. Research and volunteer opportunities are offered as well. In addition, according to a 2010 report by Johns Hopkins, nearly 100% of all graduates who have applied have been accepted into medical school. The university has also produced over 40 merit scholarships for students in medical school.
