Top B Pharm Colleges

Pharmacology students evaluate medicines and their effects on the body. The field encompasses all levels of study, beginning with a bachelor's degree program in pharmacy. B Pharm students generally move on to pursue graduate study in order to achieve the necessary professional qualifications.



The B Pharm program, found only at international institutions, generally requires four years of study. A number of top colleges offer the program, allowing an array of options when choosing a location.
  1. University of Hong Kong

    • The University of Hong Kong, founded in 1911, provides a three-year undergraduate program for pharmacy students. HKU ranks 23rd in the "QS Top Universities--World University Rankings Results 2010" list, and No. 1 in Hong Kong. The program plans to evolve into a four-year program in 2012, and offers a strong clinical focus for its students. They also receive training in Chinese medical practices and alternative medical options.

      Students learn about counseling and communication as well. Courses include Pharmaceutical Chemistry I through III, Herbal Medicines and Medical Genetics. Most graduates go forward in their education on the graduate level. Prospective students should have a strong background in biology, chemistry, statistics and other math.

    University of Sydney

    • The University of Sydney provides a historical backdrop to its students. Founded in 1850, the university is Australia's oldest university. It ranks 37th in the "QS Top Universities--World University Rankings Results 2010" list, and second in Australia.

      The university's bachelor of pharmacy degree is a full-time-only program. it consists of 192 credit points and four years of study time. Students receive instruction in biology, chemistry and pharmacy basics, and take Formulation and Dispensing, and Microbiology as part of the coursework. The program allows for its graduates to register as pharmacists.

    • University of Queensland, founded in 1909, is one of Australia's older universities. The school ranks 43rd in the "QS Top Universities--World University Rankings Result 2010" list, and No. 4 in Australia.

      The bachelor of pharmacy degree program, four years in length, provides a unique internship opportunity upon graduation. Students successfully completing the degree may participate in a medical setting or a public-service facility. The 48-week paid internship provides invaluable professional experience. Coursework includes Cells to Organisms, Human Physiology & Pharmacology, and Quality of Medicine. Honors students pursue a modified curriculum in the third and fourth years.

    • Trinity College, Dublin, founded in 1592, provides an array of study choices for students wishing to study in Ireland's capital city. The college ranks 52nd in the "QS Top Universities--World University Rankings Results 2010" list, and No. 1 in Ireland. Students in the four-year bachelor of science degree program in pharmacy take courses including Biochemistry, Physiology, and Cell & Molecular Biology. Students also complete a final project.

      Graduates who want to be practicing pharmacists in a social service or medical environment must, before graduation, participate in a specialized yearlong curriculum. Upon completion, they register with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland.
