The Medical Laboratory Sciences program at the College of the North Atlantic prepares students for performing clinical laboratory procedures such as diagnostic testing on blood, tissues and bodily fluids for identifying, treating or preventing disease. Program course topics include biology, psychology, biochemistry, hematology and transfusion science. Students must obtain a St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate and Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) for graduation. The 10-semester program includes clinical laboratory experience and interdisciplinary studies. Graduates of the program may transfer credits earned into a bachelors degree in technology at Memorial University of Newfoundland or a bachelors in science at Athabasca University.

The Biomedical Laboratory Technology program at Dawson College prepares students with practical knowledge and skills to become medical technologists. Graduates may work in laboratories for clinical biochemistry, clinical microbiology and microorganism studies, blood and blood coagulation studies, body function studies, DNA and molecular biology, hematology and hemostasis, histology (body tissue studies) or immunology. The three-year program includes classroom and laboratory instruction in the first two years, and clinical experience in a hospital in the final year. Graduates may test for certification from the CSMLS and join the Ordre Professionnel des Technologistes Médicaux du Québec (OPTMQ). The program also satisfies requirements for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and the National Certification Agency (NCA) for Medical Laboratory Personnel examinations in the United States.

The Medical Laboratory Science program at St. Clair College of Applied Arts and Technology prepares students to work in the medical technology field. Classes in the program include organic chemistry, clinical immunology, microbiology, histology and mycology and parasitology. Student will complete clinical internships in the sixth semester in chemistry, microbiology, hematology, histotechnology and transfusion science. Graduates of the three-year advanced diploma program may take the CSMLS exam and apply for licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
