The Socratic Method is implemented in the classroom at the University of Chicago. With this method, the professor does not lecture, but instead, students are encouraged to engage in rich conversation regarding the law. The school is host to more than 40 student organizations and three student journals. The school offers joint degrees in business, international relations and public policy.
Founded in 1835, New York University Law School offers a plethora of joint degrees with Harvard University, Princeton, as well as a J.D. degree plus master's degree programs in economics, French and taxation, to name a few. Students are able to choose an area of focus such as environmental, international or innovation law. The admission process is extremely selective. Students wishing to transfer to NYU are allowed to do so if they have completed one year of law school.
Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt University is among the nation's leading law schools. Vanderbilt offers small class sizes so students receive personalized attention. Approximately 195 students enter Vanderbilt's law program each fall semester. Vanderbilt offers a specialized L.L.M degree for international students. Courses in Legal English are offered, along with the law school curriculum in this program. The university's English Language Center offers intensive communication and group discussion to assist international students in mastering the English language.
Founded in 1845, the University of North Carolina's law school offers high-quality education at a lower cost to students. Beginning on January 27, 2011, the school started offering an L.L.M. degree to foreign attorneys wishing to study abroad in the United States. J.D. programs and duel-degree programs such as a Master of Arts in Sports Administration, Medicine and Health Care, and Master of Public Policy can also be obtained.
