International Law Universities

International law offers career opportunities in many arenas. You could fight for human rights at the Hague, represent international corporations in business deals or help unstable countries develop a civic infrastructure. Besides the law schools that offer international studies as part of their degree programs, some major American universities also host programs, institutes and centers devoted to the study of law in international settings.
  1. New York University

    • New York University has several programs and centers dedicated to international law, including the Hauser Global Law School Program, the Institute for International Law and Justice, the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, the Global Public Service Law Project, the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law and Justice and the Project on Transitional Justice. The school has eleven international study-abroad program locations, and is rated first in US News & World Report's annual International Law Program rankings.

    Columbia Law School

    • Columbia has several specialized programs and centers, such as centers for Chinese, Japanese, Korean and European legal studies, plus the Human Rights Institute and an International Moot Court program. Columbia graduates can earn dual degrees with several European universities, including the Sorbonne and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris, the University of London. and the Institute for Law and Finance at the University of Frankfurt. Columbia also has 15 international study-abroad programs.

    Georgetown University

    • Georgetown University is home to the Center for Transnational Legal Studies, the Center for the Advancement of the Rule of the Law in the Americas and the Georgetown Human Rights Institute. The school also sponsors the Institute of International Economic Law and the Program on International Business and Economic Law. It also has nine study-abroad programs, including one in the Netherlands, home to the Hague and the World Court.

    Harvard University

    • Harvard's international law programs include the East Asian Legal Studies Program, the European Law Research Center and the Program on International Financial Systems. It also supports an Islamic Legal Studies Program. As of 2011, Harvard has seven study-abroad programs, with two more programs in the works in Canada and South Africa.

    Yale University

    • Yale University hosts the China Law Center, the Latin America Annual Seminar, the Middle East Legal Studies Seminar and the Honesty and Trust Project, which focuses on Eastern Europe. Yale has five study-abroad programs, including one that grants a fellowship to work at the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague.
