  1. About

    • Widener University Law School is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and accredited by the Association of American Law Schools. Based on reputation, selectivity of admission, faculty resources and placement success, the school was ranked by "U.S. News & World Report" as a Tier 4 school in 2010, with the top 100 law schools out of the 184 surveyed making up the first two tiers. Widener Law offers both a three- and four-year program, with a combined enrollment of 1,100.

    Admissions

    • Admission to Widener Law's Juris Doctor program requires, at a minimum, a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, taking the Law School Admissions Test, the LSAT, and registering with the Law School Admission Council, LSAC. Widener Law gives foremost consideration to applicant's undergraduate grade point average and LSAT score(s). The Admissions Committee gives secondary consideration to extracurricular activities, graduate course work, employment history and community involvement. Widener offers many merit-based scholarships as well as assistance determining what financial aid options exist for prospective students.

    Academics

    • Students can choose both day and evening classes as they work toward their Juris Doctor, or JD degrees. Widener Law's Delaware campus also offers three certificate programs for students wishing to tailor their legal educations toward health law, business law and trial advocacy. In addition to a traditional JD, the school offers dual degree programs which pair JDs with other advanced degrees; students can work toward, among other degrees, a Master of Business Administration, MBA, or Doctor of Psychology, Ph.D., while simultaneously pursing their law degrees. Clinics, externships and public interest opportunities are available to all students.

    Campus Life

    • The Delaware campus sits on 40 acres, which includes on-campus dining, recreation and housing. Students can choose from numerous and diverse student-run activities and organizations ranging from law reviews and a moot court honor society to the student bar association and nearly 30 other special interest groups. First-year students have the opportunity to attend a variety of academic support workshops on topics such as case briefing, outlining and preparing for exams. Academic counseling is available to all students throughout the year.
