Southern Law Universities & Schools

The south offers a number of options for prospective law students who are searching for the right law school.   1. Southern University Law Center

    • The Southern University Law Center offers full- and part-time Juris Doctor degree programs as well as a dual degree in law and public administration. The school's curriculum focuses primarily on the common law tradition and Louisiana legal practices and there are numerous learning activities both in and out of the classroom. The Center prides itself on the wide range of racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds of its student body.

    Emory Law

    • The law school at Emory University offers Juris Doctor degrees as well as dual degrees in business administration, divinity, theological studies and public health. Emory Law also offers a number of issue-specific multidisciplinary programs that allow law students to diversify their learning experience. Second- and third-year students who are interested in civil service may participate in the field placement program which allows them to volunteer with public and government agencies.

    Tulane University Law School

    • The law program at Tulane University is one of the oldest in the country and offers both Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees. The curriculum centers on both the civil and common law traditions with specializations in environmental, maritime, sports, international and comparative law. Students are required to participate in pro bono work in one of seven areas as a requirement of graduation.

    University of Georgia School of Law

    • The University of Georgia School of Law offers Juris Doctor, Master of Law and dual degree programs in business administration, historic preservation, public administration, sports management and social work. Students are encouraged to participate in the university's award-winning moot court and mock trial programs to further their understanding and skills in advocacy.

    SMU Dedman School of Law

    • The Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law offers both Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees. Class size at the Dedman school is deliberately small and one-on-one student-faculty interaction is strongly encouraged. The Dedman school is home to the national headquarters of the Appellate Judges Educational Institute as well as five law school journals.

    University of Mississippi School of Law

    • The law school at the University of Mississippi offers a Juris Doctor degree as well as two certificate programs with concentrates in criminal law and air and space law.
