    • Rutgers University's bachelor of music program at the Mason Gross School of the Arts is divided into three concentrations: jazz studies, music education and performance. Music education majors can take the choral track with an emphasis on vocal music, the choral track with an emphasis on keyboard or the instrumental track. Graduate students shooting for either a master of music or doctor of musical arts degree focus on music education, performance or music history, theory and composition.

    • What sets Stevens Institute of Technology apart from the pack is its program emphasis on the relationship between music and technology. The music major allows for both traditional conservatory study of music in addition to the technological tools of the musical trade. After completing a core curriculum of courses in music theory, music history, production piano/performance proficiency and technological tools, bachelor of arts students in music pick one of three concentrations in which to major.     • In the Seton Hall University music department, bachelor of arts students major in either applied music (or performance) or comprehensive music, required for music education in New Jersey. Students may also minor in performance or musical theater. Performance majors and minors have their pick of instrument concentrations, from double bass to clarinet.
