One of 11 colleges at the University of Kentucky, the School of Music enrolls approximately 400 music majors a year, including 150 graduate students. Undergraduate degrees include a bachelor of music in music education and performance, a bachelor of arts in music and a minor in music. Master's degrees include a master of arts in musicology or music theory and a master of music in performance, conducting, sacred music, composition and music education. Students have access to 49,000 music books and scores, as well as 16,500 sound and video recordings at the college's Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center. The Fine Arts Computer Lab offers state-of-the-art computers, synthesizers, MIDI equipment and sound editing software. Students have the opportunity to perform in any of the college's award-winning, critically lauded ensembles, including the Wildcat Marching band, jazz ensemble, concert band, orchestra, UK Opera Theatre, wind ensembles, percussion ensembles and many others.

According to the school's website, students have a chance to "make a recording in Nashville and perform in Carnegie Hall" while earning a degree at The Kentucky Christian University School of Music. The college offers degrees in music business, music education, music performance and worship, which teaches ministry through music. Students perform both on and off campus in ensembles that include concert choir, chorale, concert band and Ars Nova, a group that performs "a cappella madrigal and vocal jazz music." Students can join the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference, a campus organization committed to music advocacy.

A member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1936, the School of Music at the University of Louisville is committed to "providing music students with a balanced set of musical performance, aesthetic, and analytical experiences that will allow them to advance as professionals in chosen fields of study." These fields of study include conducting, instrumental/voice performance, jazz, music composition, music theory, music therapy, music history and music education. Students can also participate in several ensembles, including choir, jazz and symphony. The college's music building offers 29 open practice rooms, as well as a number of piano, organ and harp practice rooms. Its Margaret Comstock Concert Hall seats 558, the smaller Malcolm Bird Recital Hall seating 140. The Music Building also boasts a virtual room to simulate different acoustic environments, a computer lab with MIDI workstations and a professioanl-quality recording studio. The Dwight Anderson Music Library houses 22,000 discs and more than 270 subscriptions to music magazines and journals.
