Toronto University Admission Requirements

The University of Toronto, in the core of downtown, is a popular choice for a postsecondary education in Canada. Students often apply in hopes of staying close to home. In Canada, grades are given in percentages out of 100 percent, where 50 percent is a pass. The University of Toronto's admissions website does not post the required percent averages, as they change annually.
  1. Computer Science Bachelor of Science

    • To be considered for the computer science bachelor’s degree program at the University of Toronto, students must have completed at least six Grade 12 courses on the U/M level as part of a high school diploma. The U level courses prepare students for university courses, while M level courses are for college and university preparation. English, mathematics and calculus must be among the six courses. If English is a second or third language, an English test may be mandatory. The percentage cut-off point changes annually, so contact the admissions office or high school academic counselor for more information about applying to the computer science program.

    Commerce and Management (Bachelor of Commerce)

    • The commerce and management bachelor’s degree requires at least of six U/M Grade 12 courses, including English and mathematics with calculus, and a high school diploma. The school recommends that the other four include any business or law classes the high school offers. Students also must complete an online student profile through the admissions office to see if they are a good fit for the program. A language test may be necessary if English is not the applicant’s first language.

    English Literature (Bachelor of Arts)

    • The English Literature program requires a high school diploma and at least six U/M courses, one of which must be English. The program recommends math as an another. Other courses that may benefit the application are dramatic arts, fine arts and other language courses that demonstrate the student’s ability to be creative, inventive and analytical. If the applicant is not a native English speaker, an English test may be necessary; contact the admissions office for details.

    Environmental Biology (Bachelor of Science)

    • Applicants must have completed high school and at least six university preparation courses, including math, English and calculus. Calculus is a prerequisite for many science courses in the first year. Biology, physics, chemistry and anatomy are recommended university preparation courses. Degree course work depends on the subjects that are most appealing for the applicant. A language test may be necessary for foreign students, as teaching is in English.

    Mathematics and Physics Bachelor of Science

    • Applicants must have a high school degree and six U/M Grade 12 courses, including English, general mathematics and calculus, with calculus is a prerequisite for the program. Students can obtain an additional form required for application through the admissions office. An English language test may be necessary students whose first language is not English.
