Southern Illinois Community Colleges

Community colleges provide quality higher education and vocational training. Many students interested in a four-year college degree, earn an associate's degree at a community college and then transfer to a four-year college or university to complete their education. Community colleges also provide vocational training in a variety of fields. The area of Southern Illinois has four community colleges.
  1. Rend Lake College

    • Rend Lake College offers associate degrees in four areas: Health, Applied Science, Liberal Arts and Math and Science. In addition to the associate degree, Rend Lake also provides ongoing education courses as well as GED classes. The main campus is located in Ina, Illinois directly off Interstate 57. Rend Lake College also offers off-campus courses in numerous towns around southern Illinois. Applicants can apply online or by mail and are required to have a high school diploma or equivalents. Applicants will also be asked to provide proof of residency for in-state tuition.

    John A. Logan College

    • John A. Logan College is the largest community college in southern Illinois. The student body population is 6,000 and expanding. The college is located in Carterville and offers associate degrees in Applied Technologies, Business, English, Humanities, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Education and Social Science. A variety of courses are offered online. The college also provides an extensive list of continuing education course for the community. Application may be made online. Applicants must also submit high school transcripts and schedule a COMPASS or ASSETT exam.

    Shawnee Community College

    • Shawnee Community College is a small community college located in the southwestern tip of Illinois. Shawnee Community College offers associate degrees in Health, Health and Technology and Entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurship program prepares students for vocational careers in areas such as appliance repair, auto body repair, heating and air conditioning and real estate. Shawnee also provides GED and continuing education courses. Applicants are required to possess a GED or equivalent. Applications may be made online.

    Southeastern Illinois College

    • Southeastern Illinois College offers associate degrees in Applied Technologies, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, Nursing and Health, Business and the Social Sciences. Online courses are also offered as are GED and continuing education courses. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Contact Southeastern to receive application materials.
