In order to apply to Howard College, you must be a graduate of an accredited high school, accredited home school program or have completed the General Educational Developmental Testing Program (GED). You must have a satisfactory score on one of the following standardized tests: THEA, ASSET, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER,TAKS, ACT or the SAT. Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf also requires each incoming freshman to submit a Texas Residents Certificate of Deafness and a copy of his scores for Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemption policy.
There are a few steps to get into Howard College. The first step is to apply online through ApplyTexas (see Resources). It is a free service and through it you can apply to many colleges in Texas, not just Howard College.
In order to complete your application file, it must include: your application for admission, official high school transcript with graduation date, and official college transcripts from all colleges you have attended. The Registrar may also require confirmation of your state residency status.
In order to transfer to Howard College, you must complete the application for transfer admission (see Resources). You must also have your official transcripts from both high school and the other colleges you attended sent to Howard College's registration office.
After you are accepted, you must meet with an advisor in the Advising/Career Center Office. This can be done in person or over the phone.
