Humber College Requirements

Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning is a polytechnic college that was established in 1967. Located in Ontario, Canada, the college has eight schools offering 150 full-time programs and 200 continuing education programs. Students of Humber can earn bachelor's degrees, diplomas, certificates and postgraduate certificates. Admission requirements to Humber vary depending on the program you are applying to and your academic profile.
  1. Requirements for Traditional Students

    • Requirements for traditional students apply only to students graduating from Ontario high schools. Traditional students are required to send official transcripts directly to Humber College. Your grades are weighted against other traditional applicants and the highest performing students are admitted first until all slots have been filled for the degree program. In addition, each degree program has a minimum grade point average to apply. For instance, to enter the Bachelor of Arts program, you must have at least a 70 in 12th-grade English (ENG4U) and at least a 65 average in 12th grade courses overall. In addition, you are required to submit a portfolio and writing sample electronically. Students from the United States and other countries are considered international.

    Requirements for Mature Students

    • If you are a domestic student that has failed to graduate from an Ontario high school by the time you reach age 19, you can apply to Humbers post-secondary diploma programs as a mature student. You will be required to pass a Humber-administered assessment to be admitted. There is a $35 fee to take the assessment, and any official grades you have from high school will also be considered. You may enroll into a degree program as a mature student if you are age 21 or older, but there is no assessment option and normal degree grade requirements apply.

    Requirements for International Students

    • You must submit English proficiency test scores if it is not your native language. Humber accepts the Test Of English as a Foreign Language scores and there are minimum requirements for each program. For instance, for degree programs you must score a minimum grade of 560 on the paper test, 220 on the computer-based test and 84 on Internet version. In addition, Humber College has specific grade requirements for each country. United States' applicants need a minimum grade average of 70 percent to qualify. If your transcript isn't written in English, it must be translated before sending. International students pay a $75 (Canadian dollar) application fee.

    Requirements for Disabled Students

    • If you require specific services to accommodate a disability, you must contact Humber College's disability services upon submission of your application. In this case, Humber will make every accommodation necessary to assist in interviews, testing or auditions as required by the program to which you are applying. If you fail to inform Humber College of your condition early, no other special accommodations will be made.

    Requirements for Transfer Students

    • If you have attended another post-secondary institution at the time of your application, you are considered a transfer student and admission will be based on your most recent grade point average, which cannot be below 60 percent average. You also will be subject to the submission requirements of the program you select.
