The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the third largest dental school in the country. The college has eight different dental units, including the Dental Hygiene Division. Furthermore, the Dental Hygiene Division is the only program in the state of Ohio that offers a four-year degree for dental hygienists.
Within the program, there are two distinct tracks. The first track is called the Entry Level Dental Hygiene Program and is designed for undergraduate students with no prior training or degrees in the dental hygiene field. In order to qualify for this program students must earn a GPA of at least 2.5 for thirty credit hours (in specific courses relevant to program), have observed dental hygienists in private practice for at least twenty hours and have competitive SAT/ACT scores.
The second track is called the baccalaureate degree completion program and is intended for students who earned an associate degree or certificate in dental hygiene. The purpose of this program is to allow students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene instead of a two-year degree. The program normally takes two years of full-time to study to complete.
