A degree from a college of agriculture can lead to a number of career options in a related vocational fields. Colleges of agriculture focus on the study of topics such as poultry science, plant pathology, horticulture, entomology and crop and soil science. Most positions in the agricultural sector require a bachelor's degree in agricultural science; positions requiring advanced research and teaching at the post-secondary level generally require a master's degree or a PhD.

The college enrolls about 2,200 of the university's 34,000 students each year. The college was founded in 1859 and has been an important part of the university ever since. The school sponsors six different research centers, including the Center for Food Product Innovation and Commercialization and the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health.

    Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College

    • Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia, enrolls just over 3,300 students each year. ABAC's School of Agricultural and Natural Resources offers three undergraduate degrees, including the associate of science, associate of applied science and the bachelor of science. The school is comprised of six major departmental divisions: wildlife, animal science, biological and agricultural engineering, agricultural business, environmental horticulture and forestry and agronomy. The horticulture department offers the bachelor of applied science in turfgrass and golf management. Located in an agricultural area, the college makes extensive use of its surroundings with a number of outdoor laboratory facilities.

    • Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia, offers courses and degrees through its College of Agriculture, Home Economics and Applied Programs. The university offers three associate degrees and bachelor's degrees in plant science, ornamental horticulture, animal science, agricultural engineering technology, agricultural technology and agricultural economics.
