Agriculture Engineering Colleges

Agricultural engineering, as the name implies, is the application of engineering research to the field of agricultural endeavors. Agricultural engineering colleges generally combine the fields of agricultural engineering and biological engineering into one department because of their closely related content matter. These colleges usually offer both baccalaureate and graduate degrees in the field. Research emphases at the graduate level vary according to the institution's strengths.
  1. University of Illinois

    • The University of Illinois has the top ranked agricultural engineering department in the nation, according to the 2009 "U.S. News & World Report" rankings of undergraduate departments in the field. At the undergraduate level, the university offers a four-year Bachelor of Science. Students can also pursue a five-year dual degree program receiving an additional bachelor's degree from the university's College of Agricultural, Environmental and Consumer Sciences. At the graduate level, students can pursue the Master of Science and the Ph.D. The school offers several areas of concentration at the graduate level: agricultural safety, water safety, bioenvironmental engineering, water and soil resources engineering, bioprocess and food, precision agriculture, grain properties and quality, off-road equipment engineering, and computational science and engineering.
