St. Louis Community Colleges

St. Louis is the home of a couple of different community college systems. In the city of St. Louis and in the outlying suburbs, students have a variety of educational choices. Community colleges in the St. Louis area allow students to begin their college career by taking smaller classes than those found in the university setting and without having to pay the sometimes exorbitant costs associated with private colleges.
  1. St. Louis Community College

    • Located on four different campuses distributed throughout the St. Louis area, St. Louis Community College has been serving the educational needs of St. Louis area college students since the early 1960s. The college is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Campuses are located in Meramec, Forest Park, Florissant Valley and Wildwood, Missouri. The college offers a variety of associate degrees. The Associate of Arts degree is awarded in the fields of business administration, communication arts, general studies, life sciences, math, multimedia, music and technical communication. Associate of science and applied science degrees are offered in a variety of fields as well. An associate in fine arts and education is possible as well. For industrious students, the college offers both an accelerated program and a study abroad program.

    St. Charles Community College

    • As part of the outlying St. Louis community, St. Charles Community college has been providing St. Louis area students with a college education since 1992. The college is also accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Academic divisions within the school include the arts and humanities, business and social sciences and math, science and health. Associate of arts degrees are offered in the fields of teaching, art, biology, business, chemistry, communication, computer science, criminal justice, economics and a variety of other fields. Associate of science degrees are conferred in the fields of pre-engineering, nursing and health information technology. Applied science degrees at the associate's level include general technology, education, criminal justice, child care and early education, computer-aided drafting, business administrative systems, business administration, allied health, computer science, graphic design and human services.

    Mineral Area College

    • Mineral Area College, located on the outskirts of St. Louis in Park Hills, Missouri, was founded in 1965. In addition to many of the traditional degree programs, Mineral Area College sponsors a law enforcement academy and a fire academy. Associate of Arts degrees are conferred in the fields of teaching and general studies along with a wide array of programs in the arts and sciences. Program in the arts and sciences include degrees in the fields of art, biology, business, English, history, information systems, music, physical education, physics, pre-engineering, pre-law, pre-pharmacy, political science, speech and theater arts, among others.
