Founded in 1919, Siena Heights University is a private university with a Catholic affiliation. Matriculated students can pursue associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in any of several fields, including business, humanities, social and behavior science, visual and performing arts. At least a dozen fraternities and sororities contribute to Siena Heights' an active Greek life. In addition to student clubs and organizations like the men's choir, Habitat for Humanity and the McNair Scholars Program, athletic teams in men and women's basketball, cross-country, golf and soccer add to Siena Height's vibrant student life.

A two-year community college, Lake Michigan College offers associate degrees, certificate and other training programs to students enrolled at the college, and a wide range of coursework is made available to local high school students. Lake Michigan College has an exhaustive selection of majors and programs in several fields spanning almost all areas, including business, communications, arts and humanities, and social, natural and health sciences. Established in 1903, Western Michigan University is a large public university. With an enrollment of over 25,000, U.S. News & World Report ranked WMU among the country's top public universities. The Southwest branch of the university has three undergraduate programs, in business administration, elementary education and in manufacturing engineering. A small university affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Andrews University was founded in 1874 in the village of Berrien Springs. Six schools and colleges make up the university, and bachelor's and master's degree study can be pursued in hundreds of fields like technology, architecture, education and business administration, among others.
