Catholic Colleges in Michigan

Catholic higher education in the United States has a prominent history. The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities reports that more than 200 Catholic colleges and universities serve almost 700,000 students in the U.S. These include several accredited higher education institutions in Michigan.

    • Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, offers a liberal arts education rooted in the Catholic Dominican tradition. Aquinas College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Aquinas, named in honor of St. Thomas Aquinas, emphasizes learning from individual experiences with open hearts and minds. Aquinas educates about 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students in 61 major programs. Aquinas also values service learning in the Dominican tradition of working and serving.     Marygrove College

    • Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan, is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.     Siena Heights University

    • Siena Heights University is headquartered in Adrian, Michigan and offers several degree completion centers throughout the state. This Catholic university was founded in 1919 and is sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Siena Heights prides itself on enrolling a diverse student population comprised of traditional and working adult learners. The coeducational and North Central accredited institution was founded in the tradition of the liberal arts; they offer associate's, bachelor's, master's and specialist's degrees within more than 100 academic programs.

    The University of Detroit Mercy

    • The University of Detroit Mercy resulted from the consolidation of the University of Detroit and Mercy College of Detroit in 1990. The University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan's largest Catholic university, is sponsored by the Society of Jesus and the Religious Sisters of Mercy. The university offers more than 100 academic programs to a diverse student population of about 5,600 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The school has three Detroit campuses, including two professional schools in dentistry and the law.
